After
enjoying the crisp, dry, fruitiness of Kir-Yianni Paranga with dinner, my sister and I wanted to continue on with our
pre-cinema beverages with a light glass containing a bit of acidity and vibrant
fruit flavours. We perused my wine racks and decided upon Bouchard Aîné &
Fils Beaujolais-Villages 2009. Bouchard Aîné & Fils was founded in 1750 in the heart
of Burgundy and is renowned for their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Over the past
2 centuries, they have developed expertise in the profession of négociant/winemaker/cellarer,
allowing them to pursue a mission of producing wines excelling in quality,
style and name. This Beaujolais is designated as a Village, which signifies
that the grapes have been sourced from amongst the communes within the
Beaujolais appellation.
Dark
garnet in colour, aromas of strawberry and dried rose petal and leaf swirled
about in the glass. Tart cherry and sweet raspberry flavours abounded in the
light to medium body. Spicy green peppercorn and traces of dried cherry
comprised the moderate finish. Smooth and easy drinking, this is a friendly
glass for the table or on its own.
