My
sister and her fiancé were over for dinner and a late viewing of Skyfall. To
accompany our pre-movie dinner of rich mac and many cheeses and mixed
greens salad, she had brought Kir-Yianni Paranga 2010 over. Kir-Yianni was founded
in 1997 by Yiannis Boutaris and today is under the direction of his son
Stellios who is continuing the company’s philosophy of making character driven
wines through “innovation, respect to tradition and specialized knowledge on
wine, from the vineyard to the final consumer”.
In order to produce high quality wines and protect the environment, they
employ integrated or sustainable farming practices and are AGROCERT certified. Grapes for this Paranga vintage were handpicked
and sourced from individual contract farmers in the Agios Panteleimon area in
Northwest Greece.
Transparent
cranberry-garnet in colour, aromas of cherry and earthy, spicy clove swirled
about in the glass. Tart cherry, raspberry and plum flavours were joined by a
vibrant acidity in the light to medium body. Spicy white pepper and earthy tobacco
comprised the crisp, dry finish. Intended for the table, this is a simple,
refreshing, easy drinking glass.
