I
had stopped in to my local warehouse type wine shop in order to pick up one of
my favourite sustainable, value bottles to enjoy at the rink whilst my husband
plays hockey, when my eye caught North Fork Project Merlot 2010. The bottle
size was just ever so slightly larger than the standard 750 ml that we are all
accustomed to, and I adored the brown paper bag type label with its modern
presentation. The North Fork Project is a collaboration between Pellegrini
Vineyards in Long Island NY and importer/distributer Martin Scott Wines with a
goal of introducing their estate grown, sustainably produced, food-friendly wines to a wider audience. Pellegrini
Vineyards are located in Cutchogue NY which has a parallel climate and rainfall
to that of Bordeaux. With a motto of “think global, drink local” They strive
to bring high quality, great tasting sustainably produced wines to the table.
Transparent
garnet in colour, aromas of blackberry and cozy baking spices radiated from the
glass. Jammy cherry pie flavours were entwined with earthy, dusty violet notes
in the medium body. Rich dark chocolate was sprinkled with white pepper and
clove in the moderate finish. Fruity with soft tannins, this is a fun, easy
drinking glass that arrives in a fantastic sharing size for the table.
