Château du Gaby Canon-Fronsac Bordeaux
2005
Gaby Castle is perched on a hillside
overlooking the Dordogne River. The vineyards were planted in the 18th
century and owned by the same family for 250 years, until 1999, when the Curl
Family purchased the property. They invested substantially in restoring and
improving the vineyards, castle and grounds. The family maintains low yields
and practices the natural “lute rasioneé” or controlled treatment methods in
the vineyards with minimum interference with the vines and only organic
fertilizers applied. Gaby Castle has become renowned as one of the Grand Crus
of the right Bank, their wines are renowned for their elegance and
concentration of flavours.
Deep ruby red in colour, aromas of
cherry, vanilla, toasty oak and traces of coconut radiated from the glass.
Concentrated flavours of black cherry and black current were joined by grippy
tannins in the full body. Smoky cedar, spicy licorice and hints of cinnamon lingered
flirtatiously in the elongated finish. Velvety, intense and lively, this is a
splendid glass on its own or with dinner.
