This
past weekend we were in Connecticut for my husband’s Bar Association Regional
Negotiation Competition [Yes he won, and we are headed to Dallas in the next
couple of weeks for the National Competition]
Our hotel was right next to the Yale campus so there was a good
selection of interesting restaurants and
a even a few wine shops. I found one shop, The
Wine Thief to have a fantastic selection of many bottles most from
different importers and distributers then the ones that stock the shelves in my
local area. Consequently, I arrived home with an alluring assortment of wines
that I can’t wait to pour. My sister was over last night and I had her select a
bottle, she chose Brotte La Griveliѐre Tete de Cuvee Côtes du Rhône 2011.
A
family owned négociant firm, Domaine Brotte was founded in 1931 by Charles Brotte,
the grandfather of the current owner. The company was established a winery in
order to bottle wines from other producers. Throughout the years the family has
expanded their operations, and now owns about 60 hectares of their own
vineyards. This wine was produced from a blend of grapes cultivated by several
partner winegrowers along the Rhône River.
Cranberry
garnet in colour, after aerating aromas of raspberry, rhubarb, chocolate and
dried rose petal swirled about. Juicy raspberry and pomegranate flavours were
joined by silky smooth tannins and hints of earthy leather in the medium body.
Spicy black pepper and dried cherry elements fortified the moderate finish. Pleasantly
straightforward, this is a fantastic value wonderful for everyday sipping.
