It is
very rare that I don’t remember, or don’t write down where I purchased a bottle
of wine from. Especially since whenever I travel even if it’s just an hour
from my house, I love to check out the local wine shops. Domaine Brusset Les
Boudalles Ventoux 2008 is one of those infrequent bottles that found its way into my wine rack without me
knowing how it got to be there.
Domaine
Brusset is a family estate established in 1947 by André Brusset and located in
the heart of the Côte du Rhône region. Throughout the 3 generations, they have combined
tradition with innovation in the vineyards and winery to give a “distinctive character”
to their wines. With a motto of “Vinegrowers who can move mountains” they have
converted wineries to vineyards, and vineyards to wineries, all with the goal
of locating the best expressive soils. Although not certified, they practice organic
viticulture.
Inky
dark purple with violet around the rim, aromas of damp pine forest and grape
jam swirled about in the glass. Black current and black cherry flavours were
underscored by earthy elements in the medium body. Lightly smoky woods, white
pepper and traces of dried raspberry comprised the moderate finish. This
particular vintage is rather close to the end of its drinking window so there
is a little bit of muddled flavour occurring. I am going to be on the lookout
for the 2010 vintage, as I feel it will showcase the fantastic fruit, earth and
spice elements in this rustic, easy drinking glass.
