Groth Chardonnay 2009

I had the privilege of scouring through the wine menu at a country club in search of a Chardonnay to be served at a corporate party. I was instructed to find a bottle that was American, had only had a hint of oak, and that was around the $40 range [with the club mark up, so in the real world it would be a $20 bottle]. Additionally it needed to be easy drinking in order to accompany a varied selection of party Hors d’ouevres. I decided upon Groth Chardonnay 2009. 

Dennis and Judy Groth established Groth Vineyards & Winery in 1982 when they purchased 121 acres in Napa Valley's Oakville appellation. The family owned and operated winery acquired the 44 acre Hillville Vineyard in Yountville in 1996, which has become their primary source for Chardonnay. Committed to the California wine community, Dennis Groth has served as President of the Napa Valley Vintners and Chairman of The Wine Institute.

Golden yellow in colour, aromas of apple and hints of citrus rose from the glass. Tart granny smith apple was enriched with pineapple and traces of creamy butter in the light to medium body. Refreshing ginger and lime notes were laced with light oak in the streamlined finish. Bright and easy drinking, this is an enjoyable crowd-pleasing glass.
