I picked up Château de la Chaize Brouilly 2009 because I adore Beaujolais, and whilst the Beaujolias Villages classified wines are fantastic, I find the "higher" classifications such as Brouilly and Fleurie can offer more complexity. Château de
la Chaize is one of the oldest and largest estates in the Beaujolais region.
Established in 1667 by Francois de La Chaize d’Aix, today the estate is belongs
to the Marquise de Roussy de Sales family and is one of the very few privately owned
estates which has remained in the same family. Agriculture Raisonnée or eco-friendly
farming is practiced with an emphasis on respect for the environment. The
family’s core values are “Perenity, Identity and Quality”, implemented through
their traditional beliefs and practices alongside constant modernization.
Ruby-red with violet-blue highlights, after aerating aromas of sweet cherry and river rock minerals rose from
the glass. Cherry and raspberry flavours infused the fruity light to medium
body and were supported by earthy elements. Spicy pink peppercorn, smooth stone
minerals and traces of vanilla comprised the clean finish. Well balanced and
easy drinking, this is a friendly glass great at the table or on its own.
