My sister came over the other night exhausted after a long
and crazy day of ER nursing. On the way over she had picked up Tussock Jumper
Zinfandel 2010 to accompany relaxing on the couch with back to back Cougar Town
episodes. Tussock Jumper Wines was founded a little over a year ago by wine
importer/exporter Gert-Jan Van Arkel and winemaker Marc Oliveira. Their motto
is “keep it simple but outstanding”. Today the brand encompasses 16 varietals
from 11 different international regions. The grapes for this Zinfandel were
sourced from the Lodi region in California.
Cranberry garnet in colour, aromas of cherry and peppery oak
rose from the glass and were echoed in the jammy black cherry and toasty oak flavours
in the medium body. Smooth chocolate, pink peppercorn and wisps of cedar smoke
lingered deliciously in the moderate finish. Simple and easy drinking, this is
an uncomplicated glass pleasant on its own or at the table.
90% Zinfandel, “10% other reds that will be used in varying
percentages” [Incidentally I’m not a fan of this type of labeling, I believe
there should be full disclosure in varietal percentages.]
